Each patient is treated as a unique individual and a treatment plan is tailored to obtain pain control and correction of your problem in as few visits as possible. Dr. Allen will use effective chiropractic treatment methods to restore your function, eliminate your pain, and help you regain your health.
Multiple Chiropractic Techniques
Dr. Allen will use a variety of chiropractic adjustment techniques on each individual patient's condition. We will choose the most effective techniques for your problems. Some of the techniques we use are Diversified, Gonstead, Cox, Logan, Nummo, myofascial therapy, and massage.
Spinal Disc Decompression
Bulging and ruptured disc are no longer automatic surgical candidates. We use a technique called Cox Distraction. This technique is a gentle force adjusting procedure that works with the body's natural design to aid healing properly. It is effective in alleviating low back pain due to bulging and herniated discs or simple sprain or failed back surgery. We have successfully helped patients avoid surgery in the majority of cases using this method of treatment over the last two decades.
Not only do spinal vertebrae misalign, but so do elbows, knees, shoulders, ankles, feet, and even your TMJ (temporomandibular joint). Dr. Allen achieves outstanding results with joint problems and sports injuries by adjusting extremities and restoring them to normal function.
Soft Tissue Therapies
In addition to electric muscle stimulation, ultrasound, heat, cold and microcurrent therapy is used to reduce spasm, inflammation, and pain. Also a variety of soft tissue method such as Nummo, trigger point, cross friction massage, and Logan basic expedite soft tissue healing may be used to heal soft tissue problems.
Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is an area of uncontrolled muscle tightness causing tenderness, which interferes with normal muscle function. This restricts normal range of motion, weakens the muscle, and may refer pain to other parts of the body. The hands and fingers are used to locate tight band or nodules of muscle fibers. Then the muscles are compressed with gentle sustained pressure is applied until they relax. Trigger point therapy is highly effective in reducing muscle spasms and relaxing hyperactive muscles, which in turn restores normal range of motion and promotes faster healing.
Neuromuscular therapy is a comprehensive program of deep tissue massage techniques and myofascial release. The procedure helps individuals experiencing structural distortion and the accompanying pain that is often a symptom of the underlying problem. It will help bring balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and is especially effective in alleviating chronic pain due to tension in the muscle s of the neck, shoulder, an lower back.
Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high frequency sound waves or vibrations administered in the region of soft tissue injuries. These vibrations aided by the application of a special gel penetrate the deep tissues and create a heat response. This treatment can be applied directly to the area of complaint to break down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other hard tissue that accumulate. The body's heat response to ultrasound increases the blood flow, relaxes muscle spasm and massages damaged tissues and speeds the healing process.
Microcurrent therapy uses extremely small amounts of electrical current (millionths of an amp) to
help relieve pain and heal soft tissues of the body. Injury to the body disrupts its normal electrical
activity. Microcurrent therapy is often recommended in cases involving soft tissue inflammation or muscles spasm. Dr. Allen often uses this treatment for extremities or sports injuries. Since
microcurrent therapy mimics the body's electrical fields, it is helpful in relieving pain and stimulating the healing of soft tissue, releasing muscle trigger points and improving regeneration
of the tissues.
Electric Muscle Stimulation
Electric muscle stimulation is a special form of electrical current that is administered the site of soft tissue injury. Small amounts of electrical current are induced into the tissues for the purpose of reducing swelling. Electric muscle stimulation is recommended in cases in which pain is accompanied by swelling and inflammation. In addition to reducing pain and swelling, the treatment also promotes general muscle tone and speeds healing of the affected area.
Hot packs and warm moist towels are used to increase blood circulation and relax muscles before or after chiropractic adjustments. The heat helps reduce muscle spasm and tightness and helps calm tissues suffering from long term spasm or irritation and promotes increased
circulation to speed the recovery.
Cryotherapy is a term that describes the application of ice to reduce the temperature of tissue directly on or below the surface of the skin. Surface cooling constricts blood vessels, numbs painful areas, and helps relax muscle spasms. Cryotherapy is often used to manage acute injuries or exacerbations of chronic conditions and is effective in reducing a and preventing posttraumatic swelling. Application of ice packs should be done several times daily during the initial stages of treatment in order to reduce swelling of inflamed tissues, numb pain and reduce muscle spasms.
